-lives in farmer's fields, grassy meadows, woods
-eats grains, seeds, nuts, corn, berries, mushrooms
-also eats beetles, grasshoppers, caterpillars, crickets, earthworms, etc.
-has sharp hearing and good eyesight
-uses sense of smell to find food
-wraps its tail around branches when climbing
-ball-shaped nest of leaves, grasses, and plants lined with fur and feathers
-nest in hollow logs, underground with rooms for food storage
-stays under the snow in winter and eats stored food
-has been known to live in nest built by birds or squirrels
-female has 3 or 4 litters per year
-size of litter ranges from 3 to 7 young
-babies are called pups
-enemies are cats, shrews, mink, weasels, hawks, owls, snakes

-found where people live
-have brown or gray fur
-build their nests near food
-live in small groups
-eat grain, fruit, insects and humans' food
-contaminate people's food
-spread diseases
